About the Artist –
Angela was born in Northwest
England. Her family
vacationed in Scotland where
she developed a passion for
the remote, rocky Scottish
terrain which is evident in
her contemporary landscapes.
She has resided in France
and Spain, and spent five
years in Zimbabwe where she
became fascinated by the
majestic wild animals. She
has created a extensive
series of paintings of
elephants, giraffes and
other species who rely on us
for their future. In works
inspired by the unique
terrain of Zimbabwe, she
captures the physical
elements of precarious rock
formations which are a
powerful metaphor for the
delicate balance of life and
uncertain survival facing
the African continent.
Angela has been a
competitive fencer since
early days, representing
Britain and winning two USA
Veterans titles. She retains
a huge interest in the sport
and many of her paintings
reflect the lively forms of
competing fencers.
Angela has developed her
artistic skills through
study with respected
contemporary masters. She
spent two years studying
with Alex Powers in South
Carolina and participated in
workshops given by Fran
Larsen, Ernest Velardi,
Carrie Burns Brown and
Katherine Chang Liu.
Angela's work has been
accepted into National
Juried shows and she has
been awarded membership in
the prestigious Virginia
Watercolor Society. She has
been selected for one-person
exhibitions in galleries in
New York-2004, Washington,
DC., Virginia and Maryland,
including Salisbury
University. Her work has
also been featured in group
shows in Annapolis, Easton
and Salisbury in Maryland.
Artist Statement - "I
am constantly watching and
thinking of painting
images...some never happen.
Usually, I am motivated to
paint after having planned
to work on a piece for some
time. I find that
everything that I paint is
from my life experiences,
images that are sitting in
my sub-conscious mind.
Somehow, I remind myself of
the natural beauty that has
struck me. It may be the awe
of being close to an
elephant or towering
giraffe...or the delight of
seeing Chesapeake waters
entirely still...or a fencer
using skill and energy in
competition."
