About the Artist –
Bobby began carving in
1985. Then, as now, his
artistic philosophy was to
honor both the subject and
the medium. His creatures
are sculptural, you can
sense their power in
graceful curves. Bob
doesn’t distract from that
tactile quality with a
wealth of detail – colorings
are subtle and suggestive
and the texture of the wood
shows through. Burning the
wood ages it and gives the
finishes a rich patina. All
pieces are handmade, and
although similar, no two are
alike. Bobby’s carvings
have been sold by
Bloomingdale’s and Lord &
Taylor and can be found in
collections worldwide.
Artist Statement
–
Past traditions blend
with contemporary ideas in
the crafting of creatures
that are more about form
than feather. The pieces
are fire stressed to give
them a tactile quality that
invites you to pick them up,
turn them, and study all the
angles.
