Studio – Onancock,
Virginia
About the Artist – A
native of Germany, she came
to the Eastern Shore in
1966. She and her family
settled in Onancock. Always
interested in the Arts, she
entered the “Undiscovered
Artists Show” in 1979,
sponsored be the Eastern
Shore Art League, and won
Best in Show with her
textured oil painting. In
1980 she helped promote
Onancock’s 300 year
anniversary by designing and
marketing a t-shirt and
bumper sticker. In the late
80’s she helped design and
create costumes and sets for
the Madrigal Singers, the
Trawler Dinner Theater,
Eastern Shore’s Own Theater
Group, and the ESO logo.
When not painting oil or
watercolor, Karen devotes
much of her free time now to
create her own unique style
of hand built, award winning
pottery. Mostly
self-taught, credits for
guidance belong to art
teachers, Jack Johnson, Glen
Linton and especially to the
Shore’s resident potter,
Elizabeth Hunt.
