Studio – Wicomico
County, Maryland
About the Artist -
Originally from the Eastern
Shore of Maryland, Nancy
Mysak is a representational
watercolorist. Painting in
the woods, fields, near the
rivers and the ocean, and in
her studio in rural Wicomico
County, Nancy interprets
nature. Working in
watercolor and acrylic, her
chosen media are watercolor
and acrylic.
After studying art at
Virginia Commonwealth
University in Richmond, Va.,
Nancy received her BS degree
in Elementary Education from
Salisbury University in
1972. Since that time she
has studied with locally and
nationally known artists and
taught children’s art
classes in both public and
private institutions.
The vibrancy of color and
the way light affects color
as it hits objects are what
Nancy finds most
intriguing. Beauty and
design as found in nature,
whether it is seen in a vase
of freshly cut flowers
sitting in the sun or in the
way shadows play on a cold,
snowy ditch bank, are
important in her
compositions. To capture
that beautiful instant and
save it keeps her exploring
new ways to express her
feelings through paint.
Usually beginning a painting
on location, she finishes it
in the studio, where she can
look at the painting as a
design and evaluate it for
good usage of color, value,
and composition.
In 1992 Nancy received the
Outstanding Arts Educator
Award from the Maryland
Alliance for Arts
Education. She is a
signature member of the
Baltimore Watercolor
Society, Baltimore; a member
of the Artists’ Co-op in
Salisbury, Maryland; a
member of the Talbot County
Visual Arts Center, Easton,
Maryland; a member of the
Art League of Ocean City,
Ocean City, Maryland and a
member of the Salisbury
Wicomico Arts Council. In
2005 she won the Salisbury
University Seagull Century
Award for the design of the
T-shirt art. Nancy has been
juried into shows at the
Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art
in Salisbury, the Academy of
the Arts in Easton, the
Mid-Atlantic Regional
Watercolor Exhibition in
Bethesda, the Michener
Centennial Juried Art Show
in Easton, and the Oxford
Fine Arts Fair in Oxford,
and has had numerous one and
two person shows. Her work
has been shown at the
Touchstone Gallery in
Washington, D.C. She is
represented by many
Galleries on and off the
Delmarva Peninsula.
Artist Statement -
“For as long as I can
remember I have used
whatever materials were
available to make drawings,
paintings, and sculptures.
Some of my early attempts
were truly indescribable!
Bringing nature’s beauty,
perfect and imperfect, into
clear focus, to ponder and
enjoy is my main purpose for
painting”, states Mysak.
Her natural surroundings,
friends, family, and ideas
gathered from her travels
all contribute to the
moments of inspiration,
which Nancy feels are
essential to the creative
process.
