Coming from a line of
Swedish Sea
Captains, I was the
first to work on Land.
About the Artist - My
passion for working with
metal started in the early
50’s where I spent two years
as a welder with the Army
Engineers in Korea. I then
went on to work as a welder
for an oil refinery which
gave me an opportunity to
acquaint myself with how to
handle the properties of
different kinds of metal.
Knowing the capabilities and
shortcomings when using a
variety of materials was an
excellent background for the
kind of artwork I now
produce.
While working, I attended
night school in Philadelphia
at Temple and Drexel
University’s taking courses
in metallurgy and related
subjects. These courses
further augmented my
knowledge of the
complexities of different
metals and how they can be
manipulated.
Upon retirement I became
interested in blacksmithing
which I still use to a
lesser degree, but metal
sculpture is now a dominant
factor in my life. In
addition to steel, I like to
work with stainless steel,
copper, brass, and corten,
which is a weathering steel
containing chrome, nickel
and copper and ages to a
rich dark brown.
Some sculptures are
fabricated from objects and
others from new material
purchased from local
suppliers. The finished
product can be of your own
design or mine, whichever
works to your satisfaction.
Artist Statement -
The natural setting
surrounding our home is an
inspiration for ideas that
are reflected in the pieces
I create. With the
encouragement and artistic
insight from my wife Inga,
my concepts become reality.
Our hope is that as a buyer
you will continue to enjoy
my artwork as much as I have
enjoyed producing it.
